Mr. Little’s 2014-2015 Art Room Sketchbook Assignments
Our sketchbooks will be used all year long to work out ideas for projects, reflect on the projects after completion and for short assignments and exercises. These assignments are to be worked on and completed in between major projects or in the case of a guest teacher. The goal of these assignments is to strengthen problem solving skills like ENVISION, PERSEVERE, STRETCH AND EXPLORE, and DEVELOP CRAFT. Try your hardest and do your best on each assignment or exercise.
Assignment Options:
1. Design a new type of Font or letters of your name. This assignment will take you at least 15-20 minutes.
2. Design your own ORIGINAL video game character. This should not be a drawing of Mario, Sonic, MInecraft or a Skylander. This assignment will take you at least 15-20 minutes.
3. Design your own ORIGINAL Cartoon or Comic Book character. This should be different then your video game character. This assignment will take you at least 15-20 minutes.
4. Draw something you can see. (still life) This can be a pair of scissors at your table, car you see out the window or anything else that you can OBSERVE around the art room. This assignment will take you 10-15 minutes.
5. Design an imaginary or make believe vehicle (car, plane, boat, train, spaceship, unicorn powered sled…). Whatever your brain can imagine. This assignment will take at least 15-20 minutes.
6. Draw your pet or favorite animal from memory. This assignment will take at least 10-15 minutes.
7. Full page Zen Tangle drawing. This assignment will take at least 30-40 minutes.
8. Blind contour drawing of your hand. During this drawing you may not look at your picture while drawing, you can only look at your hand. This will look kind of silly…and that’s okay. This assignment will take you only 3-4 minutes.

Sketch books are a great way to record new ideas, work through visual problems and experiment with Elements and Principles of Design.
